PEO Chapter MZ will meet Monday, March 9, at 1:30 at the home of Brenda Hackbarth assisted by Pat DeKlotz. Pat will give the program on Iowa Projects. There will be Installation of officers and initiation of a new member.
Benton Co. Corn Growers plan annual banquet, March 19
The Benton County Corn Growers Association will hold their annual banquet Thursday, March 19th at the Wildcat Golf Course, Shellsburg. Dinner will be your choice of pork loin or steak at 6:00 pm. Reservations are needed by March 15th, and may be made by emailing Benton.co.corn.growers@gmail.com or calling Lance Lillibridge @ 319-533-1170.
Penguins comedy event to help raise money for VS Post-Prom
Penguins Comedy Club in Cedar Rapids is again partnering with the Vinton-Shellsburg Post-Prom to help raise money for the annual VSHS event.
The comedy event takes place Friday, March 13, at the club at 208 2nd Ave. S.E. The comedian will be James Johann (AKA The Rural Genius). A DJ will play music after the comedy routine.
Tickets are $15 and are available at Barnes Furniture, Betterton Chiropractic, Cameron’s Tilford Elementary (ask for Molly or Tammi) or from Molly Noren at 319-310-7769.
Morrison to speak at nightly meetings in Vinton
Dale Morrison, the Message For Today director, will speak in Vinton at 409 A Avenue for the next two weekends. Services begin at 7 p.m. nightly.
On Friday, Feb. 27, his message will be "Why should we love?"
On Saturday, Feb. 28, he will speak on the topic, "How can I be born again?"
On Sunday, March 1, he will discuss "A law of love. Community RAGBRAI Meeting Tonight, Tuesday, February 24th
We are looking for enthusiastic individuals that are willing to serve on various committees to help plan for RAGBRAI’s visit to Vinton on Thursday, July 23.

Voyagers, Alumni to celebrate 35 years of dancing, Feb. 28
The Voyager Dance Team will be celebrating 35 years of performing for the Vinton-Shellsburg School District on February 28, 2015. Started in 1979, the Voyagers have been entertaining at basketball halftimes, parades and community events; performing a variety of styles from pom, prop, hiphop, jazz, light routines and the crowd favorite, high kick.
Feed Iowa First leader to speak Monday; group hopes to establish gardens
Sonia Kedrick, who has earned recognition in Iowa and beyond for her efforts in creating community gardens in empty lots, will speak on Monday at a meeting of the Cottage Garden Society.
Society member Cindy Elwick says the group is hoping to establish similar gardens in the Vinton area.
The event will take place in the Fireplace Room of Wesley United Methodist Church at 7 p.

Community meeting on underage drinking prevention set for Feb 19, in Newhall
A discussion for Benton County residents and leaders on current efforts towards preventing underage drinking and drug use featuring the Above The Influence Coalition and Benton County Sheriff’s Office has been scheduled for Thursday February 19, from 7—8 p.m., at PM St. John Lutheran Church 310 2nd Street East, Newhall . The public is invited.
Mobile Food Pantry to be at HACAP Saturday, February 14
Saturday is the Mobile Food Pantry in Vinton at the HACAP dining site.
We will open the doors early for people to come in out of the cold.
The food distribution will start at 10.
Thanks to a monetary donation we were able to purchase 5 lb. bags of potatoes. Thank you to friends who donated food. It should be a great day. If you know any one who is in need of food assistance,please tell them about it.
